They walked the streets late after the midnight hour prowling for their next prey. They were young and mean and packed into tight t-shirts and jeans. Their leather boot heels clicked as they walked with arms swinging wildly. Each of them gritted their teeth and hoped that they would find work with each passing car. Just one trick to rob or suck off and the two boys would finally get their hit. In a handful of hours they would be waking to the blazing sun and once their blurry eyes cleared and a shower started to run over them they would think about the next high and a chance to be a creature pleaser.

Gracie who I first wrote about after discovering him through his EP release on Absent Fever recently tipped me off to his first preview single from his upcoming debut full length album Bleeder. The single is titled Creature Pleaser and it is a large and in charge slice of electronic pop. It moves and sways, breaks down pounding, and rises from the dead with repeat hard hitting snares that push through it’s second half. His music always seems to find it’s ground no matter how he chooses to twist and turn things and the album should have plenty of surprises for your listening ears when it releases.

Gracie-Creature Pleaser

Philadelphia resident Andrew Balasia has been making music under the moniker Gracie for a bit more than a year now and I’ve been a fan ever since. Which is why I’m even more delighted to see that he’s finally dropping his first full length this year titled Bleeder. Balasia has released two, very different EPs so far, For Summer and Treehouse, and now it seems that he could be changing direction again. Maybe I’m wrong and Bleeder could turn out to be a culmination of his prior work but despite musical style, the material has always remained to be thoroughly enjoyable. “Creature Pleaser” is the first single from the upcoming LP and while it’s probably one of the most upbeat releases from Gracie to date I’m not complaining at all. There’s a grand, almost anthem like feel surrounding the song which makes it incredibly catchy but it’s the parallel use of dream pop and indie elements that really makes the track stick out and easily accessible as well. You can grab “Creature Pleaser” from either soundcloud or bandcamp for free but I highly recommend taking a listen to Gracie’s earlier sounds while you’re at it if you aren’t familiar or if you just want something new to hear.

Gracie

Gracie just dropped his newest joint “Creature Pleaser” over at Earmilk.  It’s the first single from his upcoming LP Bleeder , set to be uncaged this fall.  ”Creature Pleaser” picks up where his previous work left off, expanding on his experimental, anthemic beat-rock destruction.  One thing is certain, this man lives and breaths outside of the box.  Do yourselves a favor and join him.
